The copper shist district Mansfeld-Eisleben-Sangerhausen (Saxony-Anhalt) is - among other things - famous for its gypsum specimens. Most collectors know the colorless and grey crystals from Eisleben. From Sangerhausen (Thomas Müntzer shaft) brown elongated crystals are frequent. A certain variety are "Weißkopfgipse" (white-headed gypsum) from that locality - black crystals with colorless tops. There are big samples with crystals standing closely packed: a feast for the eyes! (Author: Andreas Gerstenberg)

The East side of Ben a’ Bhuird is fringed with precipitous cliffs and corries, formed during the last ice-age, resulting in lots of exposed granite rock. There are not many pegmatites to see around here though, and what you find in exposures tend to be thin and stringy. (Author: Mike Wood)

The Mountain Consolidated, or Mt. Con, was the deepest mine at Butte. The main shaft was 5,380 feet deep, and because of its depth, it was a very hot mine to work in. It produced excellent specimens of bornite chalcocite, enargite, and pyrite. (Author: crosstimber)

The next morning I walked back to base where I’d left my car at the Cairngorm Ski Centre. The fog came back with a vengeance and the wind blew strong, but I spied out the route before the view was obscured and used a map and compass. After about an hour I came across a large familiar footpath which led me safely off the mountain. I decided to return when there was less snow, which I did six weeks later for one superb day in July.
