This is a different colored kaolin area/k-spar. When you see this you know you are in an area of highwer minerization. A lot of times these little areas form a diamond shape for some reason and right blow them you are almost guaranteed to find beryl...hmm..strange (Author: Jason)

This is a Wrangel Almandine I got while on a Boy Scout "Camporee" in Wrangel in 1971, Along with the matrix specimen above. Wrangel was only 80 miles away but the only way to get there was ferry or plane and after over 25 years living in Ketchikan I only got there three times. It is 5/8" (1.6cm) in diameter. This is another cool find that I found the same day as the crystal above. This is one of my individual favorites from there. it;’s pretty unique for JXR. it has a little of everything except maybe an enhydro...It has a smokey phantom, growth lines(looks like zebra stripes), purple "flame"(color zoning that looks like wisp or flames of purple), and a cool little mini crystal that formed completely inside of the main crystal. The little minicrystal inside looks nicely formed with all it’s z and r faces but no m faces..hmm..strange never found one of these before (Author: Jason)

This piece is complete all around with interesting etch features. The etching also forms these rectangular channels that go into and sometimes right through the xtal. Note in pictures two lengths of fishing line pushed through two of the channels. One line goes through a straight channel and the other goes though one of the channels that has a 120+/- degree bend. This POW Epidote was given to me a few yars ago by an old family friend. The crystals are quite small averaging 5/16" (8mm) long, embedded in Quartz crystal. The Epidote crystals are doubly terminated, but very dificult to get the detail here. That is one of the endearing aspects of this little guy. This shows you what a Home-made Printed Circuit board looks like before it is drilled and stuffed with electronic components. These boards are so easy to do it is scary! You start off with a circuit design printed on a clear plastic sheet, place the sheet over a copper board covered with photo resist (Riston) and exposure it to a source of UVA (or sun light), develop and then removed unwanted copper with etchant (ammonium persulphate). The end result is shown in the photo. And the holes are drilled to accept the parts. (Author: Lumaes)

A large pipe cavity lined with apophyllite and stalactitic thomsonite. The pipe is about 20cm in diameter. An unusual occurence; haven’t seen another one like it at Moonen Bay or elsewhere. Other cavities in the same boulder contain the same minerals, but in completely different habits to this single example.
